DIS module can be about anywhere they want to mount the coils.
Yes, the coils mount to the DIS module.

There are 2 wires that connect the reluctor's pickup coil to the module, and
then 4 wires that run to the ecm, and then the ground wire for the coil.

There are diagrams at the FTP that might better spailn this then I.  The 3.1
Grand Prix Turbo is a 727 using DIS, and the 90 Fbody (Dissy) wiring is a
730.
