ECM data logging w/new laptop

I have just gotten access to a 486/25 Compaq laptop, and I would like to
hook it up to the 7170 ecm in my '86 Fiero, my question is:

Where can I get some (preferrably share/free-ware)data retrieval
software, and is it possible to make a cable to connect the laptop to the
aldl, or will I wind up buying it somewhere?
