FWIW we used to run exhaust fumes through a gas tank before doing any cutting 
or welding. It heats up the metal to help it release trapped gas in the metal 
& displaces fresh oxygen in the tank. Also it is infinitly more available to 
most of us than Argon or another inert gas. Not reccommending the procedure, 
just relating past experience. Wallace O.
