For all the work to do that it would be alot easier in my book to just do
the ecm work, for ignition control.
If you look at some of the timing maps (yes you'd have to download the zip
archives and hunt), but you'll see that it would take a TON of work to get
the same curves with anything else.

Slightly over a hundred, and with shopping right at.
Get a Needhams's and be done with it.  You probably could get most of you
money back out of it from someone on the list if you quit.

You can do, just an ignition only ecm.   Then add the Fuel to it later

Hold off doing anything till your really sure of what you want to do.
