2.8 maf to ad conversion.

A while back I remember someone saying that GM converted some 2.8V6 maf cars
to sd to alleveiated drivability problems or something. They mentioned a
different chip, but not what else was done.  Does anyone know if this is
true and what the conversion entails? I've got an 89 camaro that I'd like to
do it to.
