Re: Sorry no efi, National Organ, and tissue awaremess week

Please don't apologize!
I lost an ex-father-in-law whom I was very close with... He was almost dead of Lung Cancer at 50. On 100% pure O2, he was still slightly blue in the lips and nail beds. After almost 18 months of waiting on the recipient list, and near death, a lung came in. To see this man back looking healthy and alive again was a miracle. It was short lived, as the hospital was doing construction, and the OR suites had gotten contaminated with Mucor and Aspergillus. He lost an eye to the Mucor and when he had recovered and was back on his feet again, he was struck down fatally by the Aspergillus spores. He and 3 other transplant patients all done within 2 days of each other lost their lives to the infection. Not one of the survivors sued the hospital for Malpractice for this abomination of medicine. I am an organ donor, and if need came up, would give what I could while alive (IE: kidney etc). I think people afraid to donate should be educated. There is no more precious of a gift!.

If you have to flame me please do it off list.

Needless to say it's a topic very close to me.
If your not, please consider being an organ donor.
It effects so many people, and is a miracle of life.
While folks think primarily of heart and lungs, the are lots of tissues that
can make a life normal for someone else. There are many cosmetic things
that greatly improve life for the malformed, or burnt. As good as plastic
surgeons are they can't create tissue to work with for like noses ears
eyelids etc..
You can't in your wildest moments even begin to understand what it is to
watch your body waste away. Hearing the words Terminally Ill, and they are
addressing you. It's all so crushing. To get a second chance is just such
a *GIFT*.
To save someone or some people is not to be underestimated. Heart, lungs,
liver, kidneys, are all nesessary, long term you can't live without them.
For someone to see, can you imagine. For a adolescent disfigured due to an
accident, or young person suffering from genitic faults. I got to see some
graphic stuff of the changes made due to transplants, it's just, well beyond
words.
When your done with em, they still, can be of use to others. It's still
a pure program, where nothing matters other then your level of need, if your
waiting. No, they don't pull the plug on you either, to harvest you if you
are a donor.
Imagine how you'd feel, if you were losing, the ability to live. Would
you want a donor?, don't try to answer that, you'll only know the truth to
that guestion, should the time come.
If your undecided, and want to write me off list, please do.
Bruce
