Water spray is pretty common in Australia for air/air IC's.

And incidentally, if your engine ever overheats the best thing to do is
leave the radiator cap on and pour water across the radiator core.
Sudden application of cool water to the cooling system will soon
crack a head etc...

I've been working on a water/air IC for a little while - will start
fabricating the core in about 4 weeks or so. The chilled water 'sink'
is a great way to store cooling capacity.

You can also use water injection too. Water is better then ethanol
or methanol for heat capacity but methanol reduces viscosity so the
spray droplets will end up smaller as well as adding octane to the fuel
(unless you are already running >100 RON fuels).

Incidentally water (by mass) is almost a million times better then
air for cooling effect - the trick is to have high surface area at
minimum pressure loss across your water/air IC core.
