CFM=(rpmXcu in)/3456 for a normally aspirated engine at 100% eff.

In the real world, if your throttle body (or intake, or carb, cam, head 
ports, etc.)is too big, then you have insufficient flow velocity, and fuel 
drops out of suspension(this is why prot injection works better).

On my 350 olds, I have a 750 holley carb, because that is what I had lying 
around-but a 600 would do my midrange some good, and probably not take 
anything off the top as my engine wont suck more than that anyway.  I am of 
the opinion that you can go bigger with a TBI than a carb on the same engine 
as the fuel should be atomized better.  For a carb - 231-305 is 500cfm.  mild 
350 - 600, hot 350, 383 or  mild BB is 750.  buttkicking 455 should be 
850-900.
