A bucks worth of finger nail polish solves that.
Once ya get close with the finger vent deal.
use a coat hanger, or pencil, and insert it as parrelal to the piston
movement as possible, since the plugs are out you should be able to roll the
engine back and forth using hand power with the belts, once you have the
piston as high as possible in the bore, then paint some marks on the crank
pulley, just where ever they line up or look pretty to you.  For doing leak
downs you can be off a few degrees and not have the engine roll over.  Then
continue as I exsplained before.
