Karl, Thats the way I re-use connectors too, with one
exception.  I solder the wire to the crimped part FIRST
and then AFTER its cooled crimp the part over the
insulation.  That way the heat of soldering doesn't
melt the insulation where it's crimped.  Bruce Roe
