Well, it shouldn't be much of a difference, but so far, nobody has made
such a change work 100%.

Oh, in that case you should really consider a '165 variant.  In 1989
Isuzu made a 1.6L DOHC PFI engine (probably) using a '165, except in a
different case.  I don't know what ignition system they used though. 
These Isuzu apps are sort of listed in my p4xref.
