You aren't telling us much about your adapter.  Where does it get it's
power?  If the power comes from the car, how well is this filtered? 
What sort of signal level conversion do you do, if any?  Try running
your adapter (and your laptop or whatever) from a battery.

This carb ECM outputs the ALDL on the check engine light, correct?  You
might want to pull the bulb out because the other end of the bulb lives
on the noisy 12 volt vehicle power circuit.
