O2 sensor placement

While using a heated one usually allows for placement about anywhere.
I did some tinkering the other day.
I mounted a second O2 about 8 feet back from the first one that was a foot
or so from the exhuast ports.

It tracked the first one just fine, but a low idle speeds there was a huge
delay on the second one.
By the time was at cruise rpm was min.

This was on a stock 305, with a single 2" exhuast system.
So anything with a huge volume exhuast system might have a problem with
expected responses from the ecm self checking for accurate feed back for
mixture change.

But again this was 9' away as measured from the port.
