Re: SBC intake center bolt holes

Ryan,

What I have done in the past with something similar,(Vortech cyl. heads used
with other intake manifolds) went like this...
First, I drilled out the unneeded holes in the cylinder head so that no
threads remained, then I machined a brass plug the same size as the drilled
hole + .001" for a nice tight interference fit. Apply green Loctite to the
plug before tapping it in flush with the cylinder head intake manifold
surface for an absolute tight fit and permanant modification to the head.
Than take whatever intake manifold you choose and transpose the new desired
bolt pattern to the cylinder head intake surface, using the same bolt angles
that are in the intake of your choice, then just drill and tap. I used a
Bridgeport mill to clamp the head on so that I could get all of the angles
and holes drilled correctly the first time without "hogging out" the intake
mounting holes.

This makes for a nice, clean, professional looking installation and no one
will ever know the difference, besides it being leak free.
Hope this helps...
