I'm getting great results with Andrew Mattei's OBD-1 cable setup using
ecm165v3 downloaded from ftp.diy-efi.org and an old 486 laptop.  I'm doing
my work with '165 ECMs so it's not quite the same as your application, but
if the cable is what's holding you up I'd suggest trying Andrew.  

There's a link to Andrew's website on the GMECM section of DIY_EFI, don't
have it handy or I'd put it here.  If ya don't find it, give a shout and
I'll post it when I get home.
