Modifying a speedo for TTL ECM 4K vs VSS generator input

Has anyone modified a speedo that takes VSS generator input directly (4k)
and modified it to take 4k from an ECM?

I assumed that the speedo wanted a zero crossing, but that didn't work.

Any information appreciated!
