Re: Knock Sensor Question

DK -

Got a bit of experience w/ knock sensors tracking down my problem awhile
back on my Syclone. The Sy KS has an internal resistor around 4k, that
allows the ECU to 'see' if its ok, open or shorted. Other GM sensors do
not have this inbuilt resistor. The one (non-Sy) I have measures around
99k ohms (I'm checking this right now) - if rapped on w/ a screwdriver, the
resistance reading will go over 140k - probably a lot more sensitive than
trying to measure AC voltage on it. I could get around .4v AC on a digital
meter, but the change in the resistance was much easier to see. If your
resistance is either near zero or *very* high, I'd say the KS is toast.

I was getting the false knock right @ 2000rpms; moved the KS (temporarily)
to the front of the engine, as the 2000rpm knocks shown by the stock
location sensor are gradually fading away as the new cam and/or distributor
wears in. Soon's they're all gone, I'll reconnect the sensor in the stock
location. Thanks to all who helped me w/ this a few months back.
