Re: 1999 5.3 liter Vortec V-8

I hope this helps some confusion.
The LS1 family of engines started in the 97 Vette, BTW this was and still is
drive by wire. This is an all aluminum block, heads and plastic intake design
engine.
The LS1 became the Z28 engine in 98 with its own PCM, not the same as the
Vette.
The Z28 went to drive by wire I think in 99.
     Now for trucks.
In 96 all trucks got port injection, they all had the same PCM, 'cept for 4
bangers.
This basic PCM also was used in 97, just updated to a new design which fixed
an inherent ground problem between boards.
In 98 the trucks got Passlock, this is the anti-theft system. There is no
pellet in the key, its in the ignition cylinder and column itself. This
vehicle also received a new PCM and subtle connector pin differences.
99 The confusing year??? The new "Silverado" 800 series pick up was
introduced, all of you in the US should know what this is. This truck came
with the 4.8,5.3 & 6.0 liter V-8's or the old style 4.3 V-6 engine. The V-8's
are of the LS1 family and have aluminum heads. The HD 6.0 has iron heads. The
remaining trucks, such as the Tahoe and Suburban's still continued to use the
98 style engine and electronics.
In 2000 the new Tahoe and Suburban's came out with all of the new stuff.
