Re: Connector Pins for '747 ECU

Scott,
I swapped an 89 5.7L into an 84 G20 van, and needed some of these. Believe
it or not, I found some in a retail package on a peg at our local Pep Boys
store. They also had a variety of other GM type connectors. Of course, to
do it right requires the proper crimper.

Also, I'll share a trick I've used to salvage used connectors. Open the
back crimp (holding the insulation) and using a very sharp and pointed set
of cutters, snip the wire right where it goes into the front crimp (holding
the conductor). Slip a short piece of heat shrink over the wire the
connector is going on. Strip off enough insulation to allow the conductor
to make it through the back crimp and lay over the front crimp. Squeeze the
back crimp shut, make sure the wire strands are laying tight against the
body of the connector, and carefully solder, keeping the connector up high
so solder doesn't flow into it. Lastly, slide heat shrink up over the back
crimp and shrink. This isn't the most elegant technique, and I wouldn't
recommend it for routine use, but if in a bind, it will get a connector on
a wire. (Please, no derogatory comments from you technical purists out
there.)

Waytek wire has Packard wire and connectors, including weatherpack,
metripak, etc. Plus all the terminals and crimping tools. They do have
high minimums last time I checked.
www.waytekwire.com I think.

White Racing seems to stock a lot of the Packard stuff in onesies:

Napa can get, although they might not stock, GM style connectors. The
dealer is probably a source also, although a last resort due to cost.

Any other sources? I'll add them to the FAQ info.
